We are rolling out a completely new type of product for Duelund these coming days.

Investments in larger production machinery have made it possible to do larger series of Duelund quality capacitors, at much lower cost than previously possible. The upshot is, that we may now offer 100 pcs series of Duelund pure copper foil / paper in oil caps in smaller values operational at 900v for prices far below our handmade VSF and CAST series. As always, the inside of the cap itself contains no plastic what so ever.

Pictures should follow soon.

These capacitors are specifically intended for use in electronics. But if value permits, may function equally well in loudspeakers.

So please start pestering you dealer for these. :)

Launch of the VSF Black Series

In the picture you'll see our first production of the new VSF Black series, designed to fit between our VSF and CAST series. The black finish is the result of a light (or dark...) CASTing, resulting in a more resonance damped VSF cap, pushing the audio performance closer to the CAST.

The product is available to order now.

Merlin Music Systems is the first manufacturer to use the VSF Black series in their product line.

You know how sometimes you hit upon something to good to be true.

A couple of weeks ago, we stumbled upon a fully operational Graziano turning lathe.

Lo and behold, the beast was actually used in its day to make old type paper in oil caps and inductors. Needless to say, we immediately struck a deal to bring it home.

Since, our baby boy has gained 57% in body weight since being born 6,5 weeks ago, he has apparently decided that night time may in fact be used for sleeping (a couple of hours), I hope this means I'll get to find more time to post updates here.

You probably all know the type, the person who always puts it better than yourself...

One such individual is Mr. Chris Sommovigo of The Signal Collection and Stereovox Cables.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving allow me to share with you his words of wisdom, which hit my inbox today:

"As our family heads out to spend the Thanksgiving Holidays with my parents up at their "farm" (in quotes because they don't actually farm anything ...), and in the spirit of this holiday, I wanted to extend my gratitude to you for being a part of our lives.

This industry is a very strange one in that it doesn't really emulate anything else. We're related to one another by an intense passion for music, and for reproducing music in the home to a degree of excellence that most non-audiophile people in the world don't seem to understand. We share an especially high regard for the role that music plays in our life, and we get excited about the oddest things (just try and explain to anyone else how important things like VTA and anti-skating force are). We've got a fairly anonymous list of heroes - just try bringing up names like Edgar Villchur, Saul Marantz, Paul Voight, Julius Futterman, or Peter Walker at the office Christmas Party.

No - I haven't really found another industry quite like ours, and I'm thankful for that. We're an interestingly odd bunch of passionate music lovers who have found something akin to the Fountain of Youth: replenishing our bodies, minds, and souls in the waters of our favorite music playing through our carefully assembled audio systems.

You make it possible for me to enjoy one of the strangest careers in the world, to indulge in my peculiar cable-design talents, and to share the peculiar talents of other designers and engineers with you via our Collection of world-class imported gear.

Dear Frederik,

Duelund Coherent Audio’s cast capacitors are superb. They do it all and they do it so amazingly well you’ll wonder why and how you’ve been listening to anything else. I’ve listened to the Mundorf Supreme and the Intertechnik Audyn Cap and that’s just it I listened to them. The Cast Capacitors from Duelund simply disappear, what I hear now are instruments and voices unleashed and untamed, each filled with their own natural beauty and distinct presence.

Humble Homemade Hi-fi has rated the Mundorf’s and the Intertechnik’s at 9 and the Duelunds at 14. I would say it’s more like a 7 for the first two, with a very significant jump to 21 for the Duelund’s. The truth is the Duelund’s are the only ones I’ve heard that are truly getting out of the way of the music, allowing for glorious highs, where notes hang like there being delivered from the heavens.

Outstanding job creating these magnificent works of art.

Our contribution to the room, which was setup 2 minutes after gaining access to the room. It's so great to be a parts supplier... :)

From left to right we have: A CAST 630v capacitor, a CAST resistor, normal resistor, some 2.0 silver/silk cabling, our multicap for speaker design handling all values between 0.5-20 µF, a CAST paper in oil inductor, a 75 µF VSF alu capacitor and a 27 µF VSF copper cap.

Setting up the day before the show. Featured in the shot is Kerem Kücükaslan of Absolare/Echole Cables, Norbert Mundorf of Mundorf and Rainer Weber of Kaiser Acoustics.

I'm not quite sure, what I'm doing in this shot. It's probably important, though!

As you can clearly see, I'm pointing out the way for the others to follow. As you know, it is the generals who win the war. ;)

Mr. Kücükaslan installing the tubes in the Topline Audio modified Mastersound amplifier. Notice the gloves. The midrange presentation of this amplifier is "to die for".

The Kawero! in all it's reflective glory. How to get such an exquisite surface you might ask?

This is how. Mr. Weber seemed very skilled. As if he might have done the procedure before.

The finished system: Kaiser Kawero! loudspeakers, Echole cabling, Topline Audio Mastersound amplifiers, Absolare preamp, GTE Trinity DAC, Bybee power filter, Weiss Firewire Digital - Digital converter. And a laptop functioning as a music server.

If you look to the left you can see a small sign, which reads This Loudspeaker features premium Duelund components.

This is no idle boast, as the Kawero! is filled to the brim with Duelund CAST capacitors and inductors.

When audio luminaries such as John Curl, Jack Bybee and Clement Perry of Stereotimes.com are still in your room 3 hours after shutdown, you know the sound is more than acceptable. :)

Part 2 of "How it all began"

"What's your story?" Steen demanded... I replied, I had seen his writings on the net and was quickly stopped by the question "How old are you?". "20". Steen found this to be impossible seeing as my voice was much to deep for a 20 year old, which he explained to me in greaaaaat technical detail for a good 45 minutes...

As we (Steen) eventually reached the compromise, that my parents were probably keeping something from me, and I was at least 10 years older than I thought, I got to ask if it was possible to show up for a meeting in the audio society, "Sure! Come by my workshop Thursday at 7 pm".

When Thursday came I convinced a friend to accompany me, telling him they would probably have some High End system there, we could listen to. What eventually transpired turned out to be quite different.

The date was December 13th, and it was freezing. When we got to the address, there was no name on the door just 7 steps down to an entrance to a cellar, with a sign saying OPEN. Inside, the room was pitch dark except for a small line of light coming out from a door slightly ajar placed diagonally to our left.

Opening the door I looked into a basement like room about 40 m2 in size with a ceiling so low I had to slightly bow (I'm 198 cm), the space was filled to the brim with weird machinery old audio apparati, loudspeakers, capacitors, inductors, resistors and drive units from Scan Speak, Peerless, Vifa, Lowther etc. etc. Inside, a rather husky Santa Claus dressed in blue overalls looked directly at me. Stating my name blue Santa Claus remarked he could easily recognise my voice confirming him as Steen Duelund.

How it all began…

Not so long ago in a small country above Germany below Norway and Sweden.

I thought I’d take the opportunity to use my first posts to tell you how everything got started with regards to our small enterprise Duelund Coherent Audio.

11 years ago I had just begun my education at the University of Copenhagen. Since most classes take place in large auditoriums with a professor doing a solo performance with very little actual involvement of the students other than the gratuitous taking of notes, this provided me with ample time to visually eat up the many glittering audio ‘zines I brought with me.

As most of you will recognise reading audio magazines is not a means to an end. Rather, it results in you endlessly roaming High End shops, shows and the home of fellow aficionados for that next upgrade, improvement or even sidestep you could provide your system that day.

Audiophilia Nervosa was flowing through my veins and I was doing my best to feed it.

I will not bore you with details about my system at the time. Suffice it to say, that I had amassed quite a few of the “expensive” usual suspects in my living room, to the mutual chagrin of both my girlfriend (now wife) and my bank.

As is prevalent in life you seek out the ones who are afflicted with the same interests as yourself. My partner in crime is a childhood friend. For ease of writing we’ll call him M in this post. I no longer remember who of us actually introduced the world of audiophilia to the other, but knowing us both we’re probably equally culpable.

Spending a lot of time discussing on various audio boards that were popping up all over the net. One day I stumbled upon a newsgroup called dk.teknik.lyd (dk.tech.sound). Here, a fiercely argumentative poster called Steen Duelund was doing the rounds. Reading the heated debates, I wasn’t really able to supply much to the discussions, but did learn that Steen was involved with something called the Copenhagen Audio Society, so I wrote him asking if I could simply show up at a meeting. Within 5 minutes he called me…
